Dr. Cynthia Quainoo

Dr. Cynthia Quainoo, M.D is a Newark, New Jersey native, born to immigrant parents from Ghana, West Africa. After graduating from Smith College, she earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine Residency training and sub-specialty training in Transplant Hepatology at Rutgers- New Jersey School of Medicine. She concluded fellowship training in Gastroenterology at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York; she now calls Brooklyn her home.

Dr. Quainoo approach to patient care

Dr. Quainoo has over 10 years’ experience in Gastroenterology/Hepatology. She has a special interest in raising awareness about colorectal cancer screening and prevention. She believes that education, open discussions, and cultural competence are critical in bridging healthcare inequities. Furthermore, she emphasizes the importance of preventative health care and encourages healthy eating, a balanced lifestyle, and regular exercise coupled with routine medical checkups and screenings.

As part of her efforts to raise awareness on a wide range of digestive issues, she has been featured on The Breakfast Club Power 105.1, FOX 5 with Antwan Lewis, Channel 7 EyeWitness News with Sandra Bookman, News 12 Brooklyn and several radio shows. She has been a contributor to Women’s Health Magazine, Preferred Health Magazine, ENSPIRE Magazine and others. She has been a frequent guest speaker at Brooklyn Community Boards and Brooklyn Borough Hall events.

Gastroenterology industry leadership

Dr. Quainoo is a partner in private practice at Gastroenterology Associates of Brooklyn in New York City. She is a member of NY Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD). She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is also a recipient of industry awards such as the Castle Connelly Top Docs award.

On her off time, Dr. Quainoo is enjoying a workout or a morning jog in downtown Brooklyn. Otherwise, she loves spending time with her family and traveling.
